Strawberry Moon was born here on June 22, 2016, during a strawberry moon lunar phase! His mother, Nayla, was found abandoned and starving in the desert. She delivered Strawberry Moon just six days after her rescue!
He is spirited, loving, and beautiful. He loves his daily interactions with his mom and the Sahuarita family.
In late January 2018, after many hours of performing on-site colic protocol, Strawberry Moon was rushed to AZ Equine Hospital in Gilbert, AZ where he underwent colic surgery. Today, Strawberry Moon is living a full life and is a healthy and happy youngster.
In early 2025, Strawberry Moon began to show signs of pain and difficulty standing and walking. Radiographs indicated that he is suffering from the rotation of both coffin bones and is now in special shoes and a special diet to help with some weight loss and decreasing his dietary sugar content.

Volunteer Babs Felix: “This guy loves attention and is a great favorite with visitors taking a tour (when he is in the smaller enclosure adjacent to the family). He seeks out petting and scratching, even to the point of moving his head into your hand when it’s held out.”
